Disneyland's New Red Rose Taverne

In honor of the upcoming release of the live-action "Beauty and the Beast," Disneyland has rethemed the Village Haus restaurant in Fantasyland. (Yay! Personally, this has been my least favorite place to eat at Disneyland since I was a kid. Granted, they revised their menu a while and back and I never tried it, but still...) The new Red Rose Taverne is themed with Beauty and the Beast music, murals and paintings on the wall, and lots of tasty pub-style grub to try! Including, the gray stuff!!!!

Now, when I heard that my parents and younger brother were coincidentally going to be in Disneyland on a last minute day-trip on the very day that the Red Rose Taverne was opening, they received the following directions: GO! GO! GO! (And order something tasty, take lots of pictures, and try to world-famous gray stuff!)

They received the directions. They followed the directions. They reported back.

Here's what we found out:

First, the line was long. Like out-the-door long. If you go in the next couple weeks, be prepared to wait. Disney fans are flocking in to check out the redo!

Second, they loved the decor and music. It was a new and welcomed change of pace.

Third, (here comes the big stuff...) the food: They said it was very tasty! Now, it's counter-service style, so we know not to expect Blue Bayou type eats here, but compared to similar eateries in Disneyland, they really enjoyed it. They ordered 2 different flatbread pizzas, the garden mozzarella and the pulled pork. Both were yummy...and this is important because, being totally honest, I love Disneyland food, but they don't do pizza well. Besides the flatbreads, the ordered a side of pomme frites, which were apparently good, but not as good as the ones at Cafe Orleans. Again, it's not that level of restaurant. (Psst...we made the pomme frites at home. Check it out!)

Fourth (and the list only has 5 things, don't worry), our taste testers thought to ask how long the new theme would be around. (Aren't they awesome?!) The answer was: at least a few months, but if the new theme and menu receive favorable reviews, keeping it this way long-term is a definite possibility. And, while I love the old-school charm of movies like Pinocchio, and find the princesses a little overused in the parks, I definitely would be up for this change.

And, finally, the gray stuff.........sold out almost instantly. But we tried this recipe out as well. Wanna try it yourself? Click here!

Now, we will be headed to Disneyland again in April and will definitely go back to try more menu items, as well as the gray stuff. We'll keep you up-to-date!

Until then, we are confident saying the the gray stuff is delicious. How do we know? We asked the dishes. (It had to be said...)
